Question 1

What is pelvic floor physical therapy?

Accepted Answer

Pelvic floor physical therapy is a specialized form of therapy that focuses on the muscles, ligaments, and connective tissues that support the pelvic organs. It treats almost all neuromuscular issues from the ribs down to the mid thighs. Our exclusive approach includes real-time ultrasound imaging (RUSI) to provide precise, visual biofeedback during treatment, ensuring faster and more effective results.

Question 2

What should I expect during my first visit?

Accepted Answer

Your first visit includes a comprehensive evaluation where we'll discuss your medical history, current symptoms, and goals. We'll perform a thorough assessment, which may include external and internal examination (with your consent). We'll also use RUSI technology to assess your pelvic floor function. You'll leave with a clear understanding of your condition and a personalized treatment plan.

Question 3

Can I still come to the appointment if I am on my menstrual cycle?

Accepted Answer

Menstrual cycles are part of our lives! We can still assess and treat as usual even during periods. As a PT, I regularly do this and it is business as usual for me. If you are okay with it, we can perform internal treatment. If you are not, there are many ways to address and manage pelvic floor issues without internal work. And external work including manual therapy, breathwork, therapeutic exercises and neuromuscular re-education can be very effective. It is also important to know that visceral mobilization and abdominal myofascial work actually helps with menstrual pain.

Question 4

What conditions do you treat?

Accepted Answer

We treat a wide range of conditions including urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, pelvic pain, painful intercourse, prenatal and postpartum issues, fertility challenges, constipation, diastasis recti, and men's pelvic health issues. We also work with pediatric patients.

Question 5

What makes your clinic different?

Accepted Answer

We have certified expertise in Manual Therapy and we are big on hands-on treatments to speed up recovery for our patients. Specialized Fertility Rehab program. Exclusive evening and weekend hours for busy professionals

Question 6

Do you accept insurance?

Accepted Answer

Pelvic PT Plus is an out-of-network provider. Out-of-network does not mean your insurance provides nothing — many plans reimburse a portion of out-of-network physical therapy. Practicing this way lets me serve you, the patient, with one-on-one care for the full hour rather than what an insurance contract dictates. We accept cash, credit card, and HSA/FSA, and we provide a superbill for every visit. A superbill is an itemized receipt with the diagnosis and treatment codes your insurer needs; you submit it to your plan and any reimbursement is paid directly to you. We recommend calling your insurer to ask about your out-of-network physical therapy benefits (deductible, percentage reimbursed, and how to submit). Questions? Call (908) 955-3534 or email info@pelvicptplus.com.

Question 7

How does the superbill and insurance reimbursement work?

Accepted Answer

A superbill will be provided upon request following each session, which you may submit to your insurance carrier for potential reimbursement. Reimbursement is determined solely by your individual plan and benefits. We do not submit claims to or communicate with insurance companies on your behalf, and we are unable to guarantee coverage or reimbursement of any amount. Information on professional fees is available to you on request.

Question 8

Do I need a referral?

Accepted Answer

Requirements vary by insurance. Many insurance plans allow direct access to physical therapy without a physician referral. We recommend checking with your insurance provider to confirm their specific requirements.

Question 9

How long are the sessions?

Accepted Answer

Our sessions are 60 minutes long, providing ample time for comprehensive one-on-one treatment. This extended time allows for thorough assessment, treatment, and education.

Question 10

How many sessions will I need?

Accepted Answer

The number of sessions varies based on your individual condition and goals. After your initial evaluation, we'll provide a personalized treatment plan. Many patients see significant improvement within 6-12 sessions, though some conditions may require more or less time.

Question 11

Is pelvic floor therapy painful?

Accepted Answer

My personal philosophy is "Pain is Rarely Gain", at least in the realm of pelvic therapy. I want you to walk out of your session in less pain than you came in. Our treatments are designed to be comfortable and respectful of your body. We always work within your comfort level and obtain consent before any hands-on treatment. Many patients find relief from their pain through our gentle, evidence-based approaches.

Question 12

Do you treat men and children?

Accepted Answer

Yes! While pelvic floor dysfunction is commonly associated with women's health, we also treat men with conditions like prostatitis, post-prostatectomy incontinence, and pelvic pain. We also work with pediatric patients for urinary and bowel issues, as well as pelvic pain.

Question 13

What is Real-Time Ultrasound Imaging (RUSI)?

Accepted Answer

RUSI is an advanced diagnostic technology that allows us to visualize your pelvic floor muscles in real-time as they contract and relax. This provides immediate visual biofeedback, helping you understand exactly how your muscles are working and making treatment more effective. It's completely non-invasive and painless.

Question 14

What is fertility rehabilitation?

Accepted Answer

Fertility rehabilitation is a specialized approach that addresses pelvic floor dysfunction that may impact fertility. This includes optimizing pelvic blood flow, reducing pelvic tension, addressing scar tissue from previous surgeries or C-sections, and preparing the body for pregnancy. We also provide birth preparation services. Our advanced training includes visceral mobilization of the reproductive system and manual therapy of the pelvis and abdomen aimed at improving pelvic health for fertility. We work closely with patients and their REI's/ob-gyn to help patients make sense of their lab work, ensure understanding of and adherence to their IVF protocols, watch out for any symptoms that may need to be reported to the physician, in order to ensure success for women trying to conceive and for a safe and healthy pregnancy and child birth experience.

Question 15

Can I do pelvic floor therapy while pregnant?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely! Pelvic floor therapy during pregnancy can help prevent and address common issues like incontinence, pelvic pain, and prepare your body for labor and delivery. We specialize in prenatal care and birth preparation.

Question 16

When should I start pelvic floor therapy after giving birth?

Accepted Answer

You can begin pelvic floor therapy as soon as you feel ready, typically within the first few weeks postpartum. Early intervention can help prevent long-term issues and support your recovery. We recommend starting with gentle exercises and progressing based on your healing.
